The sculptures are an exploration into the dichotomy of perception between body and soul: the corporeal nature of the stone against the ethereal notion of life-force which is represented through the movement of each piece: the implied tension and interplay between the curved planes of the stones surface and the negative spaces. My work is equally at home within a natural or built environment, as it allows a convergence of nature and human design. My influences are heavily routed in specific contemporary architectural forms where this process is self evident. I am also influenced by the aesthetic quality of a few contemporary product designers where organic ergonomic forms have been combined with function to produce objects of real desire. My aim is to create abstract sculptural art which is free from ideology, but open to interpretation and speculation. I also endeavour to produce sculptures which are both visually and kinaesthetically engaging, drawing the eye through the movement within the contours and lines, whilst inviting the audience to explore these contours and textures through touch and to consider the notion of time and transition in ones own existence.
